Posting a News/Update
What it is for
The homepage has a News/Update box beside the events calendar. It holds up to four short notices for timely things like a date change, a closure, or a reminder. Anything longer belongs in a newsletter or on its own page.
Where to edit it
Sign in, then go to the News/Update Editor. Everything happens on that one page.
Adding or changing an item
You will see four numbered boxes. Each has two fields:
- Title, up to 80 characters. Keep it short, because it is the bold line people read first.
- Details, one or two sentences. You can use bold, italic, links and bullet lists.
Fill in the first empty box, then click Save Updates at the bottom. Your change is on the homepage straight away.
Removing an item
Clear out its Title so the field is empty, then click Save Updates. An item with no title stays off the homepage. The Details text can stay where it is, because nothing shows without a title.
The Clear buttons only empty the boxes
Clear this item and Clear All empty the boxes on screen. Nothing changes on the live site until you click Save Updates. If you clear something by accident, leave the page without saving and everything comes back.
Pasting from email or Word
Paste normally. Text copied out of Outlook or Word carries hidden formatting that would otherwise show up in the wrong font on the homepage, and the editor strips it for you automatically.
What you cannot change here
The fonts, colours and size of the News/Update box are set to match the rest of the site, so this page controls the words only. Email Paul if something needs to look different.
